  Topsoil is the upper, outermost layer of soil, usually the top 2 inches (5.1 cm) to 8 inches (20 cm). It has the highest concentration of organic matter and microorganisms and is where most of the Earth's biological soil activity occurs. Plants generally concentrate their roots in and obtain most of their nutrients from this layer
  The majority of our Topsoil has been excavated and removed from various sites in Surrey and taken back to our plant where it is refined to a Bs3882 British Standard.
 You can buy various grades of topsoil ranging from 5 to 20mm, we can also add soil conditioner or make a higher loam content if required.
Topsoil can be described as the top 100mm of soil. This usually has most of the nutrients that generally all plants require. That is why it is important to buy topsoil as opposed to subsoil. So be careful what you order. Bs3882 topsoil is a base model that generally most plants will grow from. You may require a more specialist topsoil for exotic plants. This makes it very important for you to do some research on what you planting technique will entail.
Topsoil can differ in colour from geography alone so not all topsoil is the same colour but the quality must still be there. We can see the topsoil constituents from the topsoil analysis sheet. This sheet will give you an idea as to what the topsoil contains and what you may need to add or subtract to meet your planting requirements.
  Generally our topsoil does not to have any additives and therefore can be called general purpose topsoil
